Things to do in Solvang

Solvang is a small Danish-themed village in the Santa Ynez Valley, built around half-timbered facades, windmills and bakeries rather than an actual Danish community today. It sits roughly two hours from Los Angeles, first along the coast toward Santa Barbara and then inland over a mountain pass, so budget most of a day for the round trip.

The village itself is walkable in an hour or two, with pastries typically $4-8 and a sit-down lunch around $15-25 per person before tax and tip. Expect it noticeably hotter and drier than the coast nearby, often several degrees warmer even in the same afternoon.

Bike rentals, food tours and themed evening walks around the village are popular and often sell out on weekends, so book ahead rather than turning up on the day.
