Things to do in Palm Springs

Palm Springs sits roughly two hours' drive east of downtown Los Angeles, longer with weekend or holiday traffic, and there is no Metro line or train connection: a car is the practical way in and around the Coachella Valley.

The city's identity is urban and thermal rather than wilderness, built around mid-century architecture, resort pools and spa culture, distinct from the hiking-focused Joshua Tree National Park and the extreme heat of Death Valley nearby.

Summer (June to September) regularly pushes daytime temperatures past 40°C (104°F), making outdoor activity genuinely risky, while November to April is the comfortable stretch most visitors should aim for. A casual lunch downtown runs roughly $15-25 per person before tax and tip.
