Things to do in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach is Orange County's cove-and-cliff town, a mile of rocky coves separated by headlands rather than one long flat strand, and its art colony identity (galleries, a walkable gallery district) sets it apart from boat-filled Newport Beach and surf-focused Huntington Beach nearby.

It sits roughly 80-95 km (50-60 miles) south of downtown Los Angeles, generally an hour to an hour and a half by car depending on traffic on the I-405 and Pacific Coast Highway; there is no direct Metro line, so a car is the practical way in. Coastal mornings can stay overcast into late spring and early summer, clearing by afternoon, with warmer water and heavier crowds by July and August.

Parking near the coves fills early in summer, and any guided activity is worth booking a few days ahead in high season rather than assuming a same-day slot.
