Things to do in Newport Beach
Newport Beach is Orange County's yachting town, built around a working harbour rather than a single stretch of sand: expect boat rentals, a private harbour cruise and views of the peninsula from the water rather than a surf-town vibe.
It sits roughly an hour to an hour and a half from central Los Angeles by car depending on traffic, and John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a few kilometres inland, useful if you are flying in rather than driving down. A car is the practical way to get here and around once you arrive.
Late spring and early summer can bring cooler water and morning marine haze before it burns off; summer weekends are the busiest, and boat or water-based activities are worth booking ahead in high season rather than assuming a same-day slot. It differs from art-and-cliffs Laguna Beach to the south and surf-focused Huntington Beach to the north.
