Things to do in Hollywood

Hollywood is the historic district built on the mythology of classic-era filmmaking, not a residential enclave like Beverly Hills or a nightlife strip like West Hollywood.

The one fact worth knowing before arriving: the Hollywood Sign has no direct public access and cannot be approached on foot or by car, so visitors view it from a distance, mainly from Griffith Observatory, Lake Hollywood Park or the hiking trails of Griffith Park, a 20-40 minute drive from most Hollywood hotels depending on traffic.

Universal Studios Hollywood is a separate attraction in Universal City, not inside the Hollywood district itself, and it should not be confused with Disneyland in Anaheim, over an hour away in Orange County. Book popular attractions in advance where possible, and budget 30-60 minutes for driving between viewpoints and neighbouring areas.
