Things to do in Los Angeles
Los Angeles is not one city centre but a sprawling basin of separate districts and independent cities — Downtown, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Griffith Observatory, Pasadena and the beaches — that can look close on a map yet take 30 to 60 minutes to cross by car depending on traffic. A rental car is the practical default; LA Metro only reliably covers Downtown, Hollywood, Koreatown, Santa Monica and Long Beach.
Five airports serve the region, from LAX to smaller fields in Burbank, Long Beach, Orange County and the Inland Empire. Summers run dry and warm with morning cloud along the coast (locals call it May gray and June gloom), while winter brings most of the region's rain. 5 hours by car.
